Yamaha JU109PE Upright Piano Review
THE NEW 109CM PIANO MADE IN INDONESIA
Most of the people are having perception of standard exam height piano should be 121cm and the rest of the shorter piano might not sound as good as this. Some teachers also will have the stereotype of disliking Indonesia made Piano due to poor workmanship and the origin countries, Japan made will always be better than the Indonesia made one. Ok thats quite true but in recent years, Indonesia Made piano started to catching up the quality of Japan made piano and although they only manufactured some basic models such as JU109PE, U1JPE, and GB1K grand piano, these piano really sounded surprisingly great ! At least greater than China Hangzhou Made Yamaha. (Personally opinion). Today i am here to prove you wrong and lets check out this 109cm little beast.
If you think this 109cm piano will sound like a compact piano then you are wrong. This JU109PE sounded surprisingly good ! Although the exam standard piano height is 121cm, but this 109cm piano tone and touch can definitely beat some of the older version sibling such as U1, U2. Lets get into the spec real quick.

Pinblock
Yamaha pinblocks are made in-house to ensure that correct materials and procedures are used. This is very important to keep the tune longer lasting as possible.
Tuning Pins
Made in-house at Yamaha, Yamaha tuning pins are made to exacting specifications to ensure stability and durability. Nickel pin (Cut thread) pin were used and they are stainless steel to prevent from rusting. A pin replacement would simply cost RM20 per pin !
V-Pro Plate
Yamaha uses V-Pro (Vacuum Shield Mold Process) in casting the iron frame (plate). V-Pro plates are stronger and visually more appealing. This is to withstand strong tension by 109cm height piano.
Spruce Keys
Yamaha uses Spruce for the keys on all models of pianos. Spruce is very light and possesses a very high ratio of strength to weight. It is ideal for key construction, even though its cost is greater than either sugar pine or bass wood. Yamaha keyboards respond quickly providing fast repetition for the most intricate piece of music. Yamaha keyboards withstand heavy use over years of fortissimo passages.
3. Tonality and Voicing
Each key of Ju109pe is individually tested and measured for the corrections needed to obtain standard ” down weight ” pressure to feel like a standard 121cm upright piano. The key plays correctly and uniformly. This balancing helps ensure a lifetime of superior touch.
The bass sounded very boldly and when we play accent key on it, it sounded just like its sibling U3 series which is famous for their bass sounding. The treble part gives a bright, clear, crisp sound as usual and normally this is overdone on the small piano like LU, M, C series (109cm height Yamaha series) but not in the case for this JU109PE. The sweetness is just right and everything is on point. This is why i love this piano so much and the consistency of the tuning is extremely good because of the pinblock material used by Yamaha Indonesia.
4 . Conclusion – The Beginner Choice.
| If your kids just started learning and you stay in a condo which do not have too much space for the piano, this is your number 1 choice and i confirm (assure) you, you will never regret.
